The buttons above the edit window may seem pretty cryptic. They're actually a bit more than you need to create a post, but there's no way to turn them off, so you can really just ignore them. A few buttons may be helpful to you though…in particular the ones on the top line. The best way to use them is to select the text you want to change, then press the button. Here's what they do:
The H1 button changes text to a header. You can select
H1
H2
H3
H4, etc.
The B button is for bolding text
The U button for underlining
The i button is for italicizing
The Q button is for
Quotes
Others that you may find handy are the numbering and bulleting buttons as well as the indent
- list item
- list item 2
- list item
- list item 2
- indented list

You can also quickly add a simple table to your post using the special character "|" called a "pipe" which you get by pressing shift "\". It's usually located just above the ENTER key. To get a table, use the format below:
||~ header 1 ||~ header 2||
|| value 1 || value 2 ||
|||| value 3 spanning columns||
and you get:
header 1 | header 2 |
---|---|
value 1 | value 2 |
value 3 spanning columns |
Give them a try and you'll quickly figure out how to use them.
